Vernal, Ut.- On 3/25/23, Sgt Gledhill conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle that failed to come to a complete stop before leaving the Quail Hollow Apartment complex.

Sgt Gledhill made contact with a male passenger and a female driver. Also inside the vehicle were three younger children in the back seat.

The male continued to reach for his waistband and hoodie pockets. After being told twice to stop reaching in his pockets, the male was asked to step out of the vehicle. When he did so, Sgt Gledhill saw an empty zip lock bag and a tooter where the male had been sitting.

The male passenger, 29-year-old Jonah Grant Betts, was placed under arrest.

During the vehicle search, a kitten crate was located between the front passenger and driver seat and accessible to the children. In the crate were kittens, an ID card issued to Jonah Betts, a syringe, and a small zip-lock baggy containing heroin.

Throughout the vehicle and glove box were multiple tooters and syringes. A syringe container was found in the back seat area with the children.

Jonah admitted to just purchasing the heroin at the apartment complex and admitted to putting the items in the kitten crate.

Due to Jonah’s criminal history, the controlled substance charge was enhanced to a felony.

While talking to the female driver, identified as 27-year-old Haylee Erleen Betts, she also admitted to Jonah just purchasing the heroin and that they were planning on using the heroin later when the children were not around.

Prior to Haylee being arrested, she was found to be in possession of a tooter and a metal canister that contained heroin residue.

Sgt Gledhill’s Statement:

Haylee was transported to the jail and I conducted field sobriety tests in the jail sally port. HGN: No clues observed. Nine Step: Lost balance during instruction phase, missed heel to toe multiple times, took improper number of steps, stepped off line. One Leg: Put foot down multiple times, raised arms, swayed. Romberg: Haylee estimated 30 seconds in the actual time of 20 seconds. She also exhibited eyelid tremors during the test. Due to Haylee's performance on the field sobriety test, I formed the opinion that she was incapable of safely operating a motor vehicle.

This is about the person who sold this couple the drugs.
