On 9/9/24, The Bottle Shop liquor store, located at 177 East Main Street, called law enforcement to report a shoplifting that occurred. Due to the sore being close when the deputy arrived, he returned the next day.

On 9/10/24, Deputy Bulow followed up with the complainant at The Bottle Shop, where she stated she had learned the suspect had been released from the Duchesne County Jail on 9/9/24.

The deputy watched the security camera footage and observed a female with dark hair shaved on her right side, in a black jacket and blue jeans,, walking around with a clear bottle in her hands.

The female is seen walking toward the front of the store and continuing to look at products on the shelves. She then appears to shield herself from the employee by hiding behind the middle row of shelves. She then conceals the bottle in her jacket and walks out the front door.

Deputy Bulow spoke with jail staff and learned the female was 33-year-old Erica Jordan Bolas. After looking at a photo of Erica, the deputy remembered seeing her the day before in the parking lot at the Duchesne County Sheriff's Office.

A short time later, dispatch notified Deputy Bulow that Erica was seen on Main Street in Duchesne. He located Erica near 120 East 100 South.

After interviewing Erica and her denying being at the liquor store at all, the deputy reviewed the security footage once more, positively identifying her in the footage. The deputy also noticed that the female in the video had a tattoo on her left upper chest area.

Erica was asked if she had a tattoo on her chest and she denied it. Deputy Bulow told her, without exposing herself, to pull down the collar of her shirt, and he saw the top of a tattoo that appeared to be consistent with the one in the video footage.

At this time, the deputy advised Erica that she had been lying to him and would be going to jail for shoplifting. Erica started to get upset and was handcuffed and placed in a patrol vehicle. Before shutting the door, she was asked if she had any drugs or weapons on her that would get her into more trouble when arriving at the jail. She stated that she didn't have anything and was taken to the Duchesne County Jail.

After arriving at the jail, a corrections deputy searched Erica, and a one-dollar bill containing a white crystal substance was located in her front left pocket. A clear glass pipe, commonly used to smoke methamphetamine, was located in the bottom of Erica's pant leg. The white crystal substance was tested with a presumptive narcotics analysis test kit and showed positive for methamphetamine.

Erica Bolas is being held without bail.
