Officer Boren with the Vernal Police Department was dispatched to the 7-11 on 100 North Vernal Avenue.
It was reported that a male had stolen some beer, left the store in a gray vehicle without headlights, and driven on a flat tire.
While the officer was getting closer to the gas station, a gray vehicle with no headlights on and a flat tire pulled onto Vernal Avenue from the back parking lot of Blackburn Vernal Mortuary. The vehicle left the parking lot, swerving down the road, disregarding the flat tire.
Officer Boren activated his emergency overhead lights and stopped the vehicle, but the vehicle continued driving, ignoring the officer. He activated his emergency sirens near 350 North, and the car continued driving. It turned on to 500 North and then turned left at 175 East, signaling right and left. Shortly after, the vehicle came to a stop.
The driver of the vehicle, later identified as 19-year-old Camden Isaiah Escalante, exited his vehicle and ran behind the Signature Key Properties building located at 575 North 175 East. Camden was told multiple times to stop running by multiple police officers and was told he was under arrest and kept running South toward 500 North.
Officer Boren was able to catch Camden, take him to the ground, and place him in handcuffs. Camden was searched and had two unopened Natural Light beer cans in his pockets.
After arriving at the jail, Camden was searched by jail staff and was found to be in possession of a plastic baggie containing marijuana.
Sgt Watt contacted Camden's mother, the owner of the vehicle, and stated he didn't have permission to take her car. She asked that he be charged. The vehicle had suffered over $500 in damage.
During the vehicle's inventory, an open case of Natural Light Beer was also found. It was found that he had thrown multiple Budlight cans of beer out of his vehicle near 7-11.
7-11 employees reported that a 12-pack of Budlight and a 15-pack of Natural Light were taken from the store.
Camden Escalante was booked into the Uintah County Jail.
