A Detective with the Uintah County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to a child sex abuse report.

The complaint told the detective that 62-year-old Scott Brian Spaulding had sexually abused his daughters. The complainant's fiance stated that she contacted Scott by phone and that Scott admitted that he was "inappropriate" with one of the daughters; however, he didn't provide any details.

Both complainants stated that all of their children went to Scott's house on multiple occasions during the summer and November of 2024.

Multiple child forensic interviews were conducted at the Vernal Children's Justice Center.

A seven-year-old female victim disclosed that sometime in November, while at Scott's residence, inside his bedroom, he used a massager on her. The victim disclosed being "very, very, scared," and she was crying, telling Scott to "stop, stop."

A nine-year-old female victim disclosed that sometime in November, while at Scott's residence inside his bedroom, he took her pants off and put her on his lap. The victim stated that Scott was holding her legs apart, and she was telling him to stop, but he wouldn't.

Another nine-year-old female victim disclosed that while at Scott's residence, on his bed, Scott was tickling all three girls. The victim stated that Scott tickled her over her private areas. The victim also disclosed that during the summer, while swimming at the lake, Scott put her on his lap. She described it as his body going up and down.

Scott was interviewed by the detective on 1/25/25, and his Miranda Rights were read. He admitted to telling the witness on the phone that he was inappropriate with her daughter but denied to the detective he did anything inappropriate.

Scott stated that maybe he accidentally touched her while wrestling but couldn't provide the detective with any details about when he wrestled with the victim. He consistently said that he did not remember doing anything inappropriate with any of the victims, nor did he remember the victims coming to his house during the time in question.

Scott did say he took the kids to Red Fleet during the summer to swim and admitted he has a massager on his dresser in his bedroom.

The detective asked Scott why he used a massager on a 7-year-old; he paused for a moment and then said, "I'm pretty sure I didn't do that." Then, he said he wanted an attorney present.

Scott Brian Spaulding is to be released with conditions:

• Promise to appear for all required court proceedings

• Promise not to commit any criminal offense

• Report your contact information and any change in address, phone, or email to the Court and your attorney within 1 business day of the change

• Complete Check-in contact daily by phone

• Complete Pretrial Supervision intake appointment within 72 hours after jail release

• Receive hearing date reminders

• Report for Drug Screening 2x per week if indicated by probable cause and/or assessment

•Report in person 1x per week for supervision appointment

•Report to Pretrial Supervision immediately after jail release

•Do not contact or communicate with, directly or indirectly, any of the alleged victims

In those jurisdictions where pretrial release and supervision authority have been granted by written agreement, defendants may be released to pretrial services without posting bail, consistent with the terms of that agreement.
