A Uintah County Deputy was dispatched to a report by dispatch that 40-year-old Matthew Jayson Hallman was at the Vernal Police Department wanting to ask the deputy about a trespassing case from the day before in Lapoint, Ut.

Deputy Lyman arrived to the station to answer his questions about the trespassing detail and asked for Matthew's name. Matthew provided his name and date of birth. Upon running his information, it was learned Matthew had a warrant.

Matthew was taken into custody, and he informed the deputy that he had a pistol in his backpack. It should be known that the warrant Matthew had been arrested for was for unlawful possession of a weapon. Because of this, Deputy Lyman ran a criminal history on Matthew for prior felony convictions.

The criminal history returned that Matthew had prior felony convictions, which makes him a category 1 restricted person and is not allowed to have a firearm.

Matthew Hallman was booked into the Uintah County Jail on the charge of possession of a firearm by a restricted person, a 2nd-degree felony, and on his warrant.

Matthew Jayson Hallman may post bail in the amount of $5,000.00.
